About Us
At Sleep Sound Southeast, we offer oral appliance therapy as a comfortable, evidence-based option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea and snoring, while also addressing TMJ-related conditions when appropriate. We work closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to support a collaborative model of care, ensuring that each patient receives comprehensive evaluation, coordinated treatment, and long-term follow-up.
Dr. Matthew West is the founder of Sleep Sound Southeast, a practice dedicated to helping patients across Southeast Alaska breathe better, sleep better, and improve their overall health through personalized care for snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and TMJ disorders.
Dr. West earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Oregon Health & Science University in 2004 and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the University of Oklahoma. He also holds a Master’s degree and is a graduate of the Kois Center, where he received advanced training in evidence-based, comprehensive dental care. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), an honor awarded to dentists who demonstrate a sustained commitment to continuing education and clinical excellence.
Over the course of his career, Dr. West has served communities throughout Alaska in both public health and private practice settings, including many years in Bethel and Juneau. He also contributed to dental education as an Associate Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program through NYU Langone Health. He currently serves as Vice President of the Alaska Academy of General Dentistry.

Through his clinical experience, Dr. West recognized the significant impact that untreated sleep-disordered breathing can have on overall health—and the challenges many patients face with traditional therapies such as CPAP. This led to the creation of Sleep Sound Southeast, with a focus on expanding access to effective, patient-centered treatment options in the region.
Dr. West lives in Juneau with his wife and children and enjoys the outdoor lifestyle that makes Southeast Alaska unique.
